  • Alias

I've had a couple of people ask, so here's the scoop.  My real name is David, generally called Dave.  Another nickname is DMo (like DeeMoe) which you can probably figure out that the D is for Dave and the Mo is the start of my last name.  Creative, huh?  Sometimes you'll see me as DMo224, my username here, which is the same as previous with my birthday added (not 224 AD though I do feel old).  That's February 24th.  Nope, didn't say the year, but some of you know that I'm an ol' guy anyway.  LoL.  And, I'm also the FogWalker.  That name is just how I've felt since I started this blog after a life changing car accident.

    Several Good Days, but tiring

I've had several decent, no, they were good days.  The migraines were lower numbers, like 4s and 5s and got lots accomplished.  Got my truck door fixed, my van taillight fixed and it inspected, Dad to the VA and also out to shoot his new bow, some big bills paid, etc.  And yesterday, my sons took Mom & Dad out to a movie: Jet Li's last movie Fearless.  My daughter/niece and nephew went, too.  Then we went out to eat at Shoney's.  After that, another movie, The Guardian.  It was a full day, and tiring for me, but it was nice to be able to do all that, and do that with all of them.

    Storming

I woke up around 3am this morning with the big barometric pressure change.  My migraine has kicked back up to a #8 and I'm thinking of trying a nap now.  It's really starting to feel and look like fall around here; my favorite time of the year.  And it's getting really close to camping time again.  I know my tent doesn't leak since it got rained and stormed on several times before I got it taken down and stowed.  I'm ready for the camping!

The FogWalker is going to do some reading...then some napping...

  • Good Day Not

My mind is not functioning well; I was trying to say it's a bad day in a nice way.  Mayb I should have just lied.  It's a continued #10 headache day that started last night.  I should have gone to the hospital, but I didn't want to wake anyone for the ride.  And no one is here now, so.... I dunno'.

How do you answer questions in blogs?  See the blog before this one to answer, only if you want to answer.

    The FogWalker desperately seeks oblivion....please....

  • How do you answer questions?

When someone asks you a question in the comments of your blog, how do you answer them?  I've notice several different ways that have been done, and I've done it several different ways.

    1. Some answer with another comment after the comments.  Done that!
    2. Some may answer at the other's blog in the comments.  Done that!
    3. Some answer in their next blog.  Done that.

I'm wondering what seems to be the most efficient way to answer.  So, if you're reading this, why not answer which way you think is more efficient in the comments for this blog?

    Sleeping

I was asked about my sleeping and getting that checked (Sheryl, thanks for the comments).  I've been through several clinics after the car wreck about the sleeping and the dreaming.  I found out that I had sleep apnea and I have a C-PAP (actually it's a bi-PAP).  This helped tremendously with my sleeping problem, but I still remembered most of the dreams.  After doing some things to get in better shape (like losing weight, eating right, exercising, etc.), the sleep apnea seemed to fade away.

When I started having the symptoms again, the tests showed that I have Restless Leg Syndrome.  Geemyknee!  This movement of the legs will also keep a person in REM sleep and not in the restful deep sleep.  It may also interrupt the sleeping patterns of your mate; which my Hunni is the one that told the doctor about it.  And I've woke up several times thinking that there was either a snake on my leg, when it actually felt like there was some rather large worm moving up my calves under the skin.  Kinda' X-files type thing....or maybe the scarabs in The Mummy.  I've even woke up and pondered sticking a knife in my calf to kill that worm, but my Hunni wasn't real pleased with that aspect either.  How'd you like sleeping with me?  So, I took meds for that which includes muscle relaxers, steroids, sleep aids, etc.  That stuff helped for about 2 weeks, especially when I was groggy for most of the day and slept all night.  Another great feeling, huh!  Mine is supposed to be neurological.  Cool.  So maybe it's related to the daily migraines.  I'm a neurological mess!

BTW, if you want to know if you have RLS, there are 4 criteria that you must have to be the honored recipient of this syndrome.

    1. You have a strong urge to move your legs which you may not be able to resist.  This is generally accompanied by uncomfortable sensations like creeping, itching, pulling, tugging, gnawing, etc.
    2. The symptoms start or become worse when you're resting.  The longer you're resting, the greater or harder the symptoms.
    3. The symptoms get better (or lesser) when you move your legs.  Of course, this may be a partial relief and it continues in just a few moments after you stop moving.
    4. The symptoms are worse in the evening when you lay down, and activities that bother you at night may not bother you in the day.

They say that 10% of people have this.  Wow!  I'm another rarity.  Dubious honor.

The migraines can also feed off this problem with not getting the proper rest, even though my neurologist considers me a medicinal failure and has no "for sure" cause.  I've even been the topic at several conventions of these doctors.  Woot!

    Before the Fog

I sometimes remember how it was before the car accident, and this fog.  But it's only been after the time of the accident and my journies thru the fog that I've really come to realize how intricate that the human body is.  It's an amazing thing, whether it's having a good time or bad.

Right now, I don't want to think of the time before the fog.  It's depressing, espcially with this migraine.

The FogWalker goes for meds...then hopes for oblivion..

  • I have friends!

I really didn't know much about some of the new features of Xanga, but I finally found out how to make friends.  So I invited a few and they said yes!  That's cool!  I do feel like I've known some of you for awhile and you've been great!  Now, what the heck is "nudges"?

    Waking Up

I used to really be a morning person.  At least, I thought so.  Now it seems that mornings just keep getting worse.  I wake up with migraines (nothing new, but they seem worse).  I wake up tired.  I wake up aching.  Maybe the problem is just waking up.

I slept soundly last night, I think.  I don't have bunches of dreams that I remember (and I can usually remember lots of dreams when I have them).  My Hunni even said that I didn't move through the night.  Now that's a first (especially with someone diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome).  Gee, I have some many syndromes that I don't know what to do with them.  I wish I could put them on eBay and sell them.  Even if they went cheap, I have such an endless supply that I would still make money!

    The Wilds

There were 3 of us that attacked the wilds yesterday.  The wilds?  Yes, my son's yard had had two and a half weeks since it was last mowed.  With the rain, then sunshine, then rain, then sunshine....his yard was wild.  I did my best there and I certainly wore myself out, though some may say that I didn't do that much.

He's got a volunteer pumpkin.  There's two pumpkins on the vines, one almost ready for picking, and the vines are probably both 10' long now.  I have been curving them around in his yard so they wouldn't section off a piece and make it hard to get to with the mower.

And his weed garden, formerly called the flower bed before he left for active duty, got a face lift yesterday.  All in all, his place looks pretty good.

Now it's time for my yard.

    Bills

Not the quacking kind!  Don't you just get tired of 'em?  Some will last forever.  And the ones that don't, well they'll be replaced by some other one that you hadn't expected, or maybe you did expect at a certain time/age.

If I'm not mistaken, and I have been known to be, but last month I paid off the last bill from the car accident dated 28 January 1998.  It wasn't my fault, but that doesn't mean there weren't bills.  I already know that I have another couple of surgeries coming from that (like another knee replacement), but for right now, I'm free from those bills.   I think!  I hope nothing else finds its way here.

    The FogWalker goes..... just goes...

  • What happened to Wednesday?

Monday, I wrote about Sunday.  And I wrote about Monday on Tuesday.  So I missed writing about Tuesday on Wednesday and I don't even remember much of what happened.  Do I take this morning to write about 2 days?  Geemyknee!  What a quandry!

    Another Bad Day, but...

Tuesday morning was really a bad morning with a #7 migraine.  It was a cool morning and is looking/feeling like my favorite season: fall.  My tent has survived a couple of storms with no problems and no leaks.  It's now really to be deployed into the woods in Wirt & Ritchie counties which is where I usually go to camp and/or hunt.  I'm anxiously awaiting that and will be going for about a week in about 3 weeks.

    For Health

I'm still attending Tai Chi Chuan class.  I think this has helped immensely for the health; physically, mentally and even spiritually.  No, I'm not a Buddhist, but anytime that you're feeling better physically and mentally, you can feel better spiritually.  I think that threesome goes together hand in hand.

I've also started back with our Moo Duk Kwan Karate Academy and the Street Self-Defense (Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan and Sanuces Ryu Ju-Jitsu taught respectively).  It's slow for me, but my doctors have been wanting me to be more active and "exerciserly".

They also want me to do more mental exercises, and these Martial Arts are also helping with that.  Tai Chi is so intricate that you have to have some gray matter to "get it".  I've got a little gray matter left, though the pathways may have been destroyed in the trauma.  However, just as we have roadways, old roads can be destroyed and new roads built.  I'm building new roads.

Sorry, but I will never be the person I once was, and that hurts, but I'll do my best to continue on, to survive!

    Homecoming

It took awhile, but my youngest son got home from active duty.  After several delayed flights and huge layovers, he got back here safely at 3am Wednesday.  He was supposed to report into the base at 7am, but they allowed him to go in at noon.  Now he's getting new orders and we don't know what those will be.

On a really good note, kinda' in a bad way, he may Staff Sergeant about a month ago.  The paperwork didn't go in correctly so he doesn't get to wear his new strips until it's finished, and he doesn't get the pay increase yet.  The good note?  He will get the make up with back pay!  Woot!  What a nice check that will be, huh!  So, there's yet another Sgt. Moore in our family.

    Was that Tuesday or Wednesday?

I don't know, but I think most of that happened on Tuesday spilling over into Wednesday morning.  And Wednesday night spilt over into Thursday morning.  Oh yeah, now I remember.  My youngest son took us all out to eat Wednesday evening after church.  My oldest son is a cook at that restaurant and just got off work when we got there.  So, the whole family got to eat and spend some good time together.  It was a nice reunion that this ol' dad really enjoyed.

The FogWalker goes off to ponder what needs to be done today....and to figure out this nudging and friends thing...but must stay in the dark for awhile...

  • Yesterday

I think I'm finding it easier to blog in the morning about yesterday than it is to come in the evening and blog about today.  Did that make sense?  Maybe it's because I'm fresher and not tired.  The bad thing about that is my memory.

    DMo224

I bought the domain name DMo224.com from GoDaddy and it seems that Xanga can't set me so that people can find me via DMo224.com.  I wonder if that has anything to do with me NOT buying the domain name through Xanga?  Surely they wouldn't be so narrowminded to do that.  It must be something to do with their registrar, who is that narrowminded.  If you buy your name through Xanga, I can't remember, but it's like $20+.  So I bought mine through GoDaddy and got it for less than $10.  I thought that made sense to save some money.  But, I can't get the DNS from Xanga, and the guy that has emailed me acts like he has answered my question while I'm starting to think that he doesn't understand English very well.

Regardless of that, I set the redirect at GoDaddy so that now you can find me at http://www.DMo224.com.  Or, you should be able to find me with the Xanga one, http://www.xanga.com/DMo224.  I wanted it to come to the DMo224 one since I do have a lifetime Xanga account!  Hint!  Hint!  ***for any Xanga personnel that might read this***

    Stick Up for John

They last time that I had a problem like this, I wrote John an email.  I haven't done that this time since I figure he's pretty busy with his own blog and his other Xanga administrating.  But I must tell you, John did all that he could and he solved the problem that I had.  He even went the proverbial extra mile and called me at home to make sure the problem was remedied!  So, with that in mind, I still think Xanga is probably the best blog (just my opinion).

    So Back To Yesterday

It was another bad migraine day, and I don't remember what happened most of the day.  I fed the animals (can't NOT do that because they would eat me for breakfast) and then went back to bed.  Got up at noon, ate a little of something, then back to bed.  Then got back up late afternoon and felt a little better.

    Volleyball

I love volleyball. I don't play much now (due to injuries), but I do help the local YMCA with their recreational volleyball leagues.  On Monday evenings, they have volleyball that I usually officiate.  I've trained my 2 sons so they can help officiate when I'm not there, and one of them is on a team playing, too.   This season, we have 6 rec teams and 0 advanced teams so it's been kinda' easy to officiate.  Last night, two sets of teams were so mismatched that the play was over really quick.  Then we came to the last two teams and they had to go all 3 games to settle the match.  Not only that, but the games were within a couple of points and that made us leaving the gym after 10pm.  I was tired and all I did was officiate....think about those players (especially the ones that have to get up early and go to work).  I still enjoy it alot.

My oldest son, when he was about 12 years olds and playing basketball, asked me why I liked being a ref.  I also reffed basketball at that time.  My answer:  I liked being places and doing a job where everyone dislikes me and they all think they know more than me!  LoL!  Though there's always someone that thinks a ref is terrible, even if they were the best ref in the world, one must remember that the ref is a professional, AND he/she is getting paid to be there; they didn't have to pay to watch!  So there!  Hehe!  Ah, and it's nice that the ref can have the last word!

I was onced threatened by a guy, a very large guy, that if I ejected him, he would wait for me outside.  I told him that he would be making two mistakes.  One, when he got out of the hospital that, two, he would spend at least 24 hours in jail.  It's nice that most states now protect officials on the way to, doing, and on the way home from their duties.  I ejected him, and I'm glad that he didn't wait.  With most high school and college games, the administration usually calls the police when someone is ejected.  Since the wreck, I don't do high school and college games anymore.  I just stick with volunteering at the local YMCA and the simple life.

    Today

Migraine is a #7, and it looks like I blog too much....or too long!

The FogWalker goes to take a hot shower....maybe some relief....

  • Let's Talk About Yesterday

I can't do much talking about today, because it's really early in the morning.  I guess I could whine because this migraine is keeping me awake.  So back to yesterday...

    Camping

Yes, I like to go camping.  I used to love backpacking, but that's just a little too hard for me to do know.  Next month, my left knee will be 3 years old and it's not quite ready for the strenuous backpacking that I used to do (right shoulder will be 3 in another 8 months).  But I still like the camping!  So, now I have 3 tents.  I have my old backpack tent that weighs in at a whopping 6 pounds.  I'm thinking I should sell that one.  I have my Eureka Tetragon 9' x 9' dome tent.  It sleeps 4 as long as everyone is sleeping on the floor.  If you sleep on a cot as I do now, the dome shape makes the floor area smaller due to the cot not being able to fit right in the corner of the floor (got to move it out about 18" due to the slope of the dome).  I don't sleep on the floor anymore!  So, put another cot in there and it's pretty much full.  A 7' long cot that stands 24" will touch the tent wall on each end.  Generally speaking, I'm the only one staying in it and it's a good tent.  I usually set my table up outside, remember it's a dome with a 6' 2" center height, so there's no cooking in the tent.  In inclement weather, it's not a lot of fun sitting outside eating my MREs.

So, I bought a new tent.  It's the Cabella's Big Horn II tent with the vestibule.  It was on sale, so I got it a little cheaper.  I kinda' wish now that I had bought the wood burning stove for it, too.  I have a propane Buddy for heat.  I've had it for a month or two and hadn't set it up, basically due to all the inclement weather.

Well, today was nice outside, and one should always try out tents before they have to rely on them, and I set it up.  My Hunni read out the instructions while I put it up.  For the first time, and doing it by myself, it took about 2 hours total.  I guess that's not bad for my limited mentality!   LoL!   And Wow!  It's got a ton of space.  I didn't really realize how much the straight sidewalls would add to the space verses the dome.  A 9' x 9' with 5'+ sidewalls would have probably done well for me, too, but this is just fantastic.  The vestibule adds another 6' to the front so that gives plenty of room to take off dirty boots before going into the tent (or take off wet stuff).  I'm really impressed.

Can you tell that I'm impressed?

And since most of my camping is in the fall and winter, this tent is more suited for the rain and snow than my other tent.  I'm thinking about getting the floor liner for it to make it easier to clean.  When I was at Cabella's, they had a sale on the whole package that I can't get now which include what I got, plus the stove and the floor liner.  Now I'm thinking I should have done that!  Geemyknee!

    Tomorrow, I mean today

I'm going to move my "stuff" out in the tent today; 2 cots, table, chairs, cook stove, etc.  I can do some arranging to see how I like it and I'll be all prepared for when I use it next month for a week.  Then I'll use it for a couple of weeks in November and December, maybe a few days in the beginning of next year.  Spring 2007 will see some more time out.

I know, I'm a big kid with a new toy!  But it's more; it's what I will be depending on when I go out camping....my home away from home so to speak!

The FogWalker is getting bleary-eyed....maybe some sleep will come....maybe this migraine will ease up...maybe...

  • Was Yesterday Monday?

The proverbial bad Monday started early for me yesterday.  No, it wasn't Monday, but it was bad.  It all started when I took my son to a 9am appointment.  When I pulled into the lot, I realized that my inspection sticker on the van had run out....in August.  Oops.  However, right next door was a garage that did inspections.  I drove right next door and got to pull right into the bay for the inspection.  After about 10 minutes and not being able to find my registration card, I had to pull out and go home for it.

The state trooper that I met on the way home was really nice.  Even the blue lights of his patrol car were a nice shade.  I explained that my stuff was on the table at the house and I was going back to get it to get the car inspected.  He was real nice about it and told me to make sure I get it done; just a verbal warning.  When I pulled out from this nice conversation I realized that I didn't even have my wallet with my driver's license.  Geemyknee!

I got home and could not find the registration.  However, in the van, I had the registration cards from 2000 up to 2005 and the proofs of insurance from 1998 to 2006.  Does everyone keep all that outdated stuff in the cars?  I also cleaned out the glove compartment of the sales tags that were over several months old, and there was a fine collection of them, too.

The license runs out on my van in another 2 weeks so I decide to get the new license and registration instead of paying $5 to get a copy of the old one.  Of course, I can't find my paid personal property tax to get the new license and registration.  Okay, okay, let's use the truck instead.  That's when I noticed that the truck inspection sticker had also run out last month.  I did have all the stuff for the truck and I got it inspected in time to pick up my son from his appointment.

I will say that tension can make migraines worse, as it did all morning.  Did I mention that when my son got in the truck that the door kinda' drooped?  The bottom hinge plate needs fixed which means about a $100 appointment with the body shop.

By the time this was all over, it was 3pm and I was going back to bed.  The next few hours were uneventful because I was in oblivion.  Maybe I should stay there today!

The FogWalker ponders yesterday....decides to sleep some more today...

  • Tai Chi Chuan

There's lots of ways to help slow the effects of age on the mind and the body.  If you can find a good Tai Chi Chuan teacher, then you've found one of the means that incorporates many of those ways.  Though I've not noticed that it has not helped alleviate debilitating migraines, it has helped me physically and mentally.

I've learned a short form that is basically for arthritis sufferers, and it really does help.  It also helps mentally because you're learning something entirely new.  Now we're working on the 24 posture short form (Yang style), and just starting the 108 posture long form.  There are so many intricate parts to all of it, and it really works the mind and body.

So, I recommend it for all ages.  Some have described it as Yoga with martial applications.  Great!

The FogWalker heads to oblivion....will ponder and practice more Tai Chi tomorrow...

  • Time Warping

You know, if I did voluntary time warping I wouldn't mind it so much.  But all mine seem to be un-voluntary.  I sometimes just sit down to rest and I warp into the future.  And I don't know how to get back to those days that I missed.  Of course, sometimes it's only hours, or a single day, but sometimes it's several days.

I sat down yesterday, Wednesday, to watch a movie and it's now Friday morning (late Friday morning).  So what happened to Thursday?  Time warped.

I'm always hurting right before the warp.  Maybe I need to make note of that and write little space and time continium notes before I warp.  I would, but I'm never ready for the warp and it just happens.  So all that time is gone and I've missed it.

And things happen in the house when I warp.  Like the living room carpet has been swept and Lil' Mo's cage has been cleaned.  The kitchen table has been moved out from the wall and is sitting in a different place.  So time just kept on going and doing things without me.

If I could only control it; maybe I will someday!

The FogWalker goes to comtemplate time warping....and maybe watch that movie...
