  • Fears

I love the scene on The Replacements where the coach (Gene Hackman) tells the players that they must overcome their fears.  Then he asks them what they are afraid of.  The first response is spiders, and several people voice their fear of them.  Obviously, that's not what the coach is talking about and asks if they're afraid of anything else.  "Bees!" comes the next answer.  The outcome is that the actual fear is quicksand.  You gotta' see the movie.

Anyway, speaking of bees,  , I saw this bug of unknown type flying around and it landed on my chest (right above my right armpit but not quite on my deltoid).  I looked down to brush it off when it stung the crap out of me.  Man!  It hurt!  And it flew off so fast that I didn't get to take revenge by squashing its guts all over the place.  I went inside and put on some Sting Ease.  That's some great stuff for easing insect stings and bites.  Sidenote: There's a couple of different ones that are really good, a natural Sting Ease made in Scotland, and another one that is in a small yellow bottle with a green cap that I can't find anywhere except for RiteAid.  I'm not really afraid of insects and am not really jumpy when they land on me, but that little devil could make anyone jumpy.

That was Saturday, and by Sunday, it was swollen and infected.  I had my hunni check it out since she's my best at-home doctor.  A little bathroom surgery and she pulled out this huge stinger that was still in the wound.  That hurt, but it relieved the pressure.  A little antibiotic ointment and by today, it's almost gone.

But unlucky Saturday was about to continue...

    IFO (like UFO, but identified)

I was cutting some wood on a table saw for my hunni Saturday evening.  My helper let go of a 2"x2" square of about 1/8" thick wood and the table saw blade shot it out.  The bad thing was that I caught it, about an inch below my belly button.  I don't know how fast that came out of the blade turned by a 3 HP motor, but it hurt.  It almost took my breath.  It did make me feel dizzy and sick.  It broke the skin on an emergency appendectomy scar that I have and gave me a rather large welt.  By Sunday morning, I had about a 3 1/2" black bruise.

I don't know if it's that, but I've been sick (like a stomach ache) and have had some sweating periods when it hurts, like now.  I think it's just a deep bruise.

The moral of the story is, when having someone inexperienced helping you do something that you are familiar with, be sure to explain all the ins and outs of the task at hand.  Don't assume that they will absorb knowledge just because you know it.

    A Silver Lining

Even though it seems that the weekend sucked, there was something nice that happened.  I had this huge 1989 Chevy Custom Tiara Van for sale for quite some time.  It's beautiful, in great shape, and is HUGE!  I don't need it anymore since I don't deliver half a basketball team to games.  Hence, it was for sale.  I've had several people stopping by periodically wanting to purchase it, but it hadn't sold.  The last guy that stopped asked this time if I would be interested in trading.  I need the money more than another vehicle, which I told him, but I would like to have another four wheel drive vehicle (preferrably a truck).  He told me that he had a Dodge Dakota truck that I might be interested.  Well, he showed it to me, we went out driving in it, and he was right: I was interested.  To shorten the story, I no longer have a van for sale, and am the owner of a Dakota!  I'm happy.

The FogWalker goes back to hide.....licking his wounds so to speak.....nursing a migraine that is threatening to become bad....
